Wow -- a year already. What an amazing time we are having. Both Gavyn and Noah are thriving and have made lots of new friends. We have been very busy over the past year with hockey, hiking, swimming, playgroup and just plain playing.
We celebrated Noah's 1st birthday in June and Gavyn's 4th birthday earlier this month. As you can see by the size of Noah's feet...he is a big boy! So very happy, very curious and super brave. Noah just adores Gavyn and tries to do everything his big brother does. Gavyn is growing into quite the little man and loves being a big brother. He absolutely loves construction vehicles and was so happy to see the pavers and equipment when our road was paved this summer. He will begin pre-K at the French school in October and is excited to start something new, while a bit apprehensive about the change. We were happy to hear that a few of Gavyn's friends will be joining him in his classroom, so we expect the "together is always better" rule to apply here quite nicely. Momma is very emotionally about the whole thing...as you can imagine!
The weather hasn't been as daunting as we had expected. Although we did have some very, very cold weather back in January and February, we still managed to get outside to play by wearing our snow pants, big boots, extra-pair of socks, down coats, balaclava, scarves, fur hats, goggles, and mitts. This of course was all worn over our layer of long underwear, sweaters and fleece-lined pants. As for the summer, we did have a few really nice days, despite the giant-sized mosquitoes. We actually hit a record High of 26.8 degrees on July 28th. The cooler summer temperatures have been wonderful and we haven't missed any of the humid and hazy days of Ottawa.
Matt has been very busy this summer with lots of cruise ships and international planes in for the tourist season. He was sent to Pond Inlet for a week in early August to clear a few ships there and was also able to get out kayaking. While out he met up with a seal, an iceberg and what he thinks may have been a narwhal.
As for Momma she is busy having fun too. Making bread, baking treats and having meals ready has been mixed with play-dates and adventure hikes. Ordering groceries through Food Mail and a Sea Lift has taken a bit of getting used to but we have gotten better at it. I absolutely LOVE being at home with the kids and am so thankful that I have had and continue to have this opportunity at this point in our lives.
We do miss home and our friends and family, but it makes our trips out to see you all that much more sweet. Big hugs to you all and onto year two!
